5th Note-Ukulele

My Ukulele, Uku-chan💕 (MeIdeal, Soprano, Model No: Muh-21
This is bad. I can’t help but laughing since I don’t have the picture of my own ukulele even though I have played it for more than a year. Like what on earth. Then I remember that my old phone was broken around the time I purchased this guy, though I did believe I did take some pictures, but don’t have any idea where in the world the files were.

So in the end I just used the picture from my Google Account, the only pict of my ukulele.

This time I want to tell you about my encounter with ukulele and how it become my fated instrument. I'll also introduce you to some types of ukulele, tips for choosing ukulele for beginner player, and a tutorial by Justin Guitar

It was around in the middle of 2017, a year of the darkness for me, when I first felt interested in ukulele. Had seen it around before, but had no interest in playing it and kinda thought that it was for kids (such an ignorant I was back then). I think it was after a got talent show where there was a kid, a little girl at that, performed her own song with ukulele and it was so amazing (I didn't usually got jealous of someone else voice, except for Aimer, but this kid voice was fabulous, and enviable).

Yup, you are right  She was Grace VanderWall, the winner of America's Got Talent 2016. And here's the footage of her audition in AGT.

It took me quite some time to decide to purchase the ukulele, because at that time I was still struggling with my skrip** (I got shiver whenever I remember my last year of college). I did some searching online about ukulele and ukulele player like Jake Shimabukuro (the very best ukulele player), Honoka and Azita, James Hills, Tylor Joseph (yup, that Tylor of 21 Pilots) and so on; went to the tutorials on how to play ukulele on youtube, and also the tips to chose the type of ukulele to buy as a first-time player. It was really hard for me to decide, but at that time I was getting tired of the stagnant progress with my guitar skill and I had also experienced a panic attack and a mental breakdown due to the accumulation of stress to finish college. That was why, it was not until December that I finally purchased one.

Ukulele was my salvation from God. A gift I bought for myself after all the troubles and hardships I went through that year. Learning about ukulele was one of the best things I ever did. And just like Jake Shimabukuro said "Ukulele is the instrument of peace. Because if everyone play the ukulele, this world will be much a happier place". God, I love him.

Generally, there are four kinds of ukulele: soprano (the standard one, 13"x21"), concert (the one you got if you're aiming to be a pro, 15"x23"), tennor (bigger scale and accommodate bigger fingers, 17"x26"), and baritone (the biggest one, 19"x30").

And here's the link for tips to choose the ukulele: How to Choose Ukulele

As a beginner ukulele player, if I may add, I suggest you to buy the soprano one since it was pretty cheap and affordable. The bigger the ukulele the more pricey they'll get. It was also so you won't regret it after purchasing one and realize later that you are not too into it (which happened to my cousin). So the safer choice is the soprano. And if you are about to buy one with quite good quality and reasonable price, I suggest you to buy the one around ID300R-400R. There's a lot of cheaper ones like ID100R-250R, but the sound just does not sound too good. And I think it's better to choose the classic-standard ukulele shape, the pretty normal one, because somehow there's a lot of people buying the showy-cute type, but mostly they doesn't sound so good as well. So quality over appearance, I guess.

It was a little bit awkward to play the ukulele if you are used to play guitar, but I believe you'll get used to it in no time. It was much and much easier to play compared to guitar and the chords were rather simple.

And that's how my 5th note ends. I think this was the longest post so far, lol. Ukulele is a simple instrument, easy to play and to carry around, and also quite loved by the kids (they think it was pretty cute). Finally, I hope you find this post quite helpful.
